Becoming Catholic (RCIA)

“Ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened for you.”                                 - Matthew 7:7 graphic for RCIA, Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a ministry that meets with persons looking to inquire into the Catholic faith.  We are here and ready to share the richness of our faith with you. If you’ve been looking everywhere for answers, and still haven’t found them, we invite you to find out what the Catholic Church offers.

RCIA is a comprehensive process, in which the Church supports and encourages the spiritual journeys of those who are unbaptized and seeking to become Catholic and for those who are baptized Catholic or in another Christian denomination who wish to complete their Sacraments of Initiation. We are a team of lay ministers who will meet you wherever you are on your faith journey.

For unbaptized persons there are four steps to the RCIA process:

The first step; Inquiry – Getting Acquainted. A team of parishioners share their own faith stories as they listen to the journeys, questions and hopes of those who have come to inquire about the Church. It is a time of unhurried reflection and discovery.

The second step; Catechumenate – Making a Decision. Inquirers come to a point in time when they begin to discern in the Catholic tradition an experience of faith that is attractive and personally meaningful. When this happens, they begin to desire to belong formally to the family of Catholic believers.

The third step; Period of Enlightenment – Deepening the Commitment – the Lenten Experience. This is a time for spiritual purification and enlightenment and spans the season of Lent and is the final step of reflection and examination of one’s motivation.

The fourth step; Sacraments of Initiation – The process culminates at the Easter Vigil when those to be initiated are baptized, confirmed, and share in the Eucharist for the first time.

Religious Education for Children

“On the lips of the catechist the first proclamation must ring out over and over: ‘Jesus Christ loves you; he gave his life to save you; and now he is living at your side every day to enlighten, strengthen and free you.’ ”
-Pope Francis, The Joy of the Gospel

Our aim of religious education for children should not be to produce students who know all the Catholic Doctrine, but rather to provide an environment in which young people learn about their Catholic identity and traditions to be able to make a faith response to the invitation to live as a disciple of Jesus, continuing His mission. Our vision is to continually move away from the traditional classroom model to a small group, faith sharing model including a strong faith in action component.

We offer traditional weekly classes for children all Saturdays. Classes begin with a large gathering in which we share the upcoming Gospel and discuss the message for the week.

Children's Liturgy of the Word

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a special program celebrated for the children of the parish during 9:30 a.m. English SundayMass and 11:00 am Spanish Mass.   Just before the beginning of Mass, the celebrant calls for the children to gather together and dismisses them to a smaller area of the church to hear God’s word in a simpler and more child-friendly and focused way.

The main reason for dismissing the children is to give them an opportunity to listen and respond to the readings in a smaller setting where they can explore God’s true meaning in their heart.  It also gives the children an opportunity to be active and moving without disturbing those around them.

Get Involved

All children ages 1-10, are welcome. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, training and materials are provided.  You do not need prior teaching experience to be a leader and we welcome any member of our parish to become part of the children litrugy team.
